Since 1926, the Brisbane Rugby League Referees Association Inc. (BRLRA) has been servicing Brisbane Rugby League and Queensland Rugby League to provide match officials to both junior and senior rugby league games played in the greater Brisbane area. Over the past 98 years, our membership has continued to grow and we are proud to be the largest rugby league referees association in Australia.
We currently have over 430 members, with around 280 active members officiating more than 450 games per week across more than 50 separate clubs. It is a big job to ensure we can supply referees so the players get to play each week.
Our members are on the field every weekend during the season at dozens of venues across Brisbane and the three local council areas of Logan, Pine Rivers and Redlands. Our members officiate matches in competitions ranging from under 6s all the way through to the Hostplus Cup and the National Rugby League. In addition to active members who are out on the field, we have many members who dedicate their time to coaching and developing other members. We believe in giving back, and we are lucky to have many experienced members who give their time to developing other match officials.
The growth in rugby league, in particular the women’s game, is something we are privileged to be a part of every weekend.
Our members come from all walks of life: women and men, school students, TAFE and university students, all types of professions, retirees, current and ex players, coaches, administrators, mums, dads and pretty much anyone who just loves the game of rugby league.
We are committed to investing our time, experience, expertise and passion to developing our members so they can contribute their best each and every week.
Refereeing and touch judging teaches you more than just the laws of the game. It is good for your fitness, provides the opportunity to grow and develop as a person, you can learn new skills, it teaches respect for others and yourself and you become part of a team.
We typical hold training sessions every fortnight and split these across the north and south sides of Brisbane so our members can more conveniently access a venue on their side of town.
Our Purpose
