Welcome to Rugby League Officiating
Congratulations on your decision to Make the Call and become a rugby league referee. The Brisbane Rugby League Referees Association (BRLRA) has been training, mentoring and supplying referees for matches throughout Brisbane for nearly 100 years. Refereeing is great for fun, friendship and fitness – plus you get to be involved with the greatest game of all and have the best seat in the house – out there on the field. Plus, you get paid. What could be better than all of that?
Just like how a player or a coach register with a club when they start their rugby league journey, referees also join a club. For us, that is the BRLRA.
Roadmap to Membership
Here’s a streamlined guide to kickstart your journey:
1. Registration with NRL and Our Association
- Register with the NRL through Mysideline (NRL Registration).
- You will need to provide an email address, your contact details, your Date of Birth and other details.
- Please select ‘Referee’ and search ‘Brisbane’. The website should return a result for the Brisbane Rugby League Referees Association. Please select this and hit ‘Register’.
- Your information will be forwarded to us, and we’ll reach out to you promptly.
- Our Secretary will be in touch once the details from MySideline are forwarded to us.
2. Start your accreditation process
- Once registered with the NRL through MySideline, you are able to register for a range of courses to get your accreditation progressing. If you are new to refereeing, you’ll need to complete the 6-12 years eLearning module.
- After completing the eLearning module, you can then register for a practical workshop. After completing the learning from the practical workshop, you will be able to start your refereeing journey.
- To register for course, visit: https://www.playrugbyleague.com/referee/courses
- If you are over 18 years of age and going to be involved in junior matches, you will also need to supply details of your Blue Card.
- If you are existing referee, or a referee who is returning to the game and your old accreditation has expired, there is a pathway for you to become re-accredited. Please email us and we’ll help you with your return. Please email operations@brlra.com.au
3. Membership and On-field Gear
- Just like being a player paying registration with their club, being part of our Association requires a membership fee.
- This fee primarily covers essential insurance coverage for your time on the field and assists in the administration of our Association.
- The BRLRA annual membership fee is $100.
- After joining the BRLRA, it is time to get your on-field and off-field uniforms.
- We have an online store where you can purchase these items.
- We also have options to pay both the membership fee and the essential on-field items in one pack.
- Visit the BRLRA Shop to progress your uniform and membership orders.
- BRLRA Store is at: https://brlra.com.au/shop/
4. Join Refbook
- All match day appointments and availabilities are managed via Refbook. Please download the app from the App Store if you haven’t. The App manages individual availabilities, venues and several draws and competitions. You must update your availabilities by 9:00pm each Sunday night for the upcoming weekend. You can also log into Refbook from a normal computer or tablet if you have internet connected.
- You can find links to Refbook in the sidebar of this website.
5. Welcome to the BRLRA
That’s it – you should now be ready. Sit tight and a member of the BRLRA will be in touch to assist you on your journey.
